 Health care in hospital

In order to receive ambulatory health care services, a patient is referred to a day patient facility in the following cases:

  • the patient needs secondary ambulatory health care services and according to his or her health condition he or she needs to take such medical cures, during the reception time of which a doctor’s supervision is required;
  • during the day, within a fixed time frame with different techniques, the patient is provided with pharmaceutical therapeutics which are thus injected;
  • the patient needs complicated diagnostic examination;
  • the patient prior to diagnostic examination needs special preliminary preparation;
  • anaesthesia is required for the patient’s examination (excluding local anaesthesia);
  • the patient requires a surgical operation;
  • the patient needs to receive rehabilitation services.

So that the patient could receive medical treatment in hospital, his or her family doctor or other medical specialist:

  • attaches a reference with the results of the examination to the referral or recommendation to a hospital appointment, which substantiates the aim of the referral and the health condition of the patient;
  • together with the patient chooses the hospital, while evaluating the urgency of the reception of the present service;
  • agrees upon the time period for staying in the chosen day patient facility with the patient and the medical institution, as well as makes a record about it in the referral.

If the family doctor or other medical specialists consider that the patient must receive urgent health care services in hospital, he or she can provide with the referral, without having previousely agreed upon the latter with the hospital concerning the time period the patient would remain in hospital. In this case, the reception department of the hospital carries out all necessary diagnostic examinations and repeatedly evaluates the medical indications for receiving urgent health care services. If the reception department of the hospital states that the particular health care service cannot be provided urgently, the hospital agrees upon a possible stationary time period with the patient, and then informs about it the patient’s family doctor.

Emergency medical care brigade transfers the patient to a hospital for receiving health care services, thus delivering the patient to the nearest hospital, which corresponds to the compulsory requirements set for medical institutions concerning their provision of emergency care.

If the patient turns to the hospital on his or her own initiative, the reception department of the hospital carries out the required diagnostic examinations, evaluates the medical indications and makes a decision concerning the provision of urgent health care services.  If the reception department of the hospital states that the particular health care service cannot be provided urgently, the patient is given a stationary access denial in written form by the reception department of the hospital, which then, in turn, informs the patient about available opportunities to receive the required health care service.
